Stay cool this summer…wear kaftans!

Kaftans have been around for centuries.  Worn by women and men in Africa, Asia and Europe.  In the 1960s and 70s, participants in the North American hippie movement started donning these free-flowing, ornate robes.

Handmade Kaftans on Etsy

Silk and More is by far my favourite shop for handmade kaftans on Etsy.  The shop is run by a hard-working, creative woman named Shikha.  She is supported by members of her family, and they make the kaftans from their home in India.  Her shop features long and short robes, custom orders for events (get them for all of your bridesmaids!), and a variety of fabrics are offered.  Shikha has even designed a button-front version for nursing mothers to conveniently nurture their child.

Fast shipping, excellent product, and the feeling of wearing these kaftans makes it a MUST HAVE for summer!  They come in one size that will fit from a size S to 2-3x nicely.  I wear mine around the house, out to coffee, and camping!

Silk and More has become so popular that several copies of the shop have appeared on Etsy.  Make sure to order from Shikha at Silk and More!

~Sweet, Subtle, Vintage Love Locket~2013-01-21 vday bracelets

This piece features a brass locket, with an iridescent charm on the front.  I filled the locket with a solid perfume made with an earthy blend of essential oils.  When you run out of perfume, the locket can be washed with soap and water and used for whatever your heart desires.

festival dresses for spinners and kynd family…

Festival season is fast approaching.  Sometimes I wonder if today’s festival fanatics know the roots of the phenomena.    The Grateful Dead and their dead-icated fans created the culture of the never-ending summer.  Deadheads Dancing at Show

The Grateful Goddess

Back in the day, one could spot a fellow deadhead mama from a mile away.  Layered clothing, patchwork, handmade dresses and backless apron tops.  The clothing was comfortable, excellent for traveling, and celebrated the essence of woman.

The dresses usually consisted of a tube around the top, simple straps and a flowing a-line or circle skirt – made for spinning!  They allowed for all shapes and sizes to dance and play in constant beauty.  For warmth in the cooler months, add leggings underneath, a sweater, and a knitted tam.  For storage, sew a secret pocket anywhere in your dress!  ;)

Get ready for summer travels and sweet soul-searching…
