I admit it, I have always been obsessed with, addicted to, and soul mates with THE 90s!!  This is the first post of a series dedicated to the strong, stylish, sometimes smelly, women of the 90s.  And by smelly, I mean work hard, play hard, let it all shine through smelly!!

How could you not be enraptured by Lisa Bonet’s vampy, bohemian, voodoo Goddess style?  Velvet, lace, gauzy and sheer, embroidered and vintage and oh-so-romantic.  If your spirit longs for the company of a caravan and your nose is delighted by the smell of nag champa, enjoy the vintage finds I have for you below.

Dopplegang This: Samantha Mathis in Pump Up the Volume

Teen angst was a really big theme in film in the late 80s, early 90s.  Pump Up the Volume is a staple in any good cinephile‘s diet.  Armed with a sexy soundtrack including The Pixies, Leonard Cohen and 90s PUNK Gods ALL, this movie sticks it to “The Man” whilst empowering an entire generation.  And the beautiful Samantha Mathis – one of the original bohemian/goth/punk rock princesses of the 90s!  Let us pay tribute!

 

 I will always recommend finding clothing first at your local Goodwill, Salvation Army or the like.  However, if you don’t have the patience for hours upon hours of thrifting, Etsy.com is the place to get your vintage on.

The outfit below was basically my uniform in high school.  The vest would be even more awesome if it were floral, like the one above, but alas – the Internet has its limits.  The key to the narrow collar on this piece – make sure to get a “halter vest” and not the regular 90s floral brocade vest with the wide shoulders.
